Dealing with Drout Conditions

2007 has been an extremely dry year! With rain fall totals twelve inches below normal and temperatures setting record highs (e.g. over ninety degrees in October), our lawn and landscape is in dire need of relief.

As our seasons begin to change, our lawn and landscape watering requirements also need adjustments. For our clients with underground irrigation systems, it is important to understand the importance of maintaining the desired moisture in the lawn and bed areas.

It is always best to deep water. When you only water for minimum time periods the roots of your grass and plants grow to the surface making them vulnerable for stress and disease. Deep watering promotes the roots of plants to chase the water. With deeper roots, you will have a healthier lawn and landscape with the benefit of finding yourself watering less.

With cooler temperatures and shorter days you may not need to water as often or as long to achieve the adequate precipitation rates. It is very important for us all to monitor and manage our irrigation controller programs.

If you need further assistance, feel free to contact us.
