Clark Project
"I could not have been more satisfied with the service and the quality of the work."
- R. Clark
Dr. & Mrs. Clark’s new home on the James River is only several weeks from being completed. As the initial stages of the landscape’s hardscaping plan begins to take shape, join us throughout the process.
Phase 1: Construction of the retaining/sitting walls along the back porch. Theses walls provide a nice transition from the back patio to the upper porch, plus can be used as a sitting surface when enjoying the outdoors. The back patio and walls were designed and constructed to allow the upper porch to pass building codes without having rails blocking the magnificent view.
Phase 2: Construction of another retaining/sitting wall along the bulk head by the river. The height of the wall allows us to change the pitch and grade of the hillside preventing erosion and creating more versatility with the final landscape design.
Phase 3: Construction of a stone staircase terracing the hill and creating a very user friendly way of getting up and down the hillside. By incorporating columns, pavers, bull nose stepping treads and low-voltage lighting makes this an elegant addition to the landscape and also has the structural strength to withstand the conditions along the river.
Phase 4: The landscaping of a hardscape project can make or break its appearance and choosing the right plants is critical. Planting on a hillside can create a maintenance nightmare so it is important to incorporate the proper material. We also take advantage of the natural beauty of the plants by emphasizing their foliage contrasts as the seasons change.
Phase 5: By incorporating stone pavers into the landings of the hillside steps allowed us to continue using the same material for the back yard patio and walks. The mixed gray toned pavers really compliment the stone steps and walls throughout the back yard project.
Phase 6: The landscaping phase of the back yard took what had looked like a construction site for over a year to a place called home in matter of days - or so it seemed...
A photo is worth a thousand words – ENJOY !!!
Phase 7: We also designed the driveway layout and border patterns using the same pave style and colors. By incorporating a darker gray border of rectangle pavers helped us elegantly define the entranceway to this beautiful home.
Although we design and install paver walks and patios, this project needed a special touch. With the magnitude of the driveway and paver project, we incorporated the expertise of Pembroke Construction. They were able to manufacture a paver with the colors needed to pull the roof’s color to the ground. Nice Job !!!
Phase 8: As our final phase of landscaping the front yard begins to wrap up. You can see the transformation of this house starting to look like a home. We were able to keep a simple but elegant colonial style of plantings with a large open front fescue lawn.
